Mishra wins gold in Civil Services Chess Tourney

Fide Master Soumya Ranjan Mishra of Regional Sports Promotion Board, Bhubaneswar, won the individual gold medal in the All-India Civil Services Chess Tournament, which concluded at TT Nagar Stadium in Bhopal today.

Mishra, who works in the office of the Chief Post Master General at Bhubaneswar, scored 7.5 points out of a possible nine. He remained unbeaten in the nine-round tournament, while winning six games and drawing the other three.

Gurpreet Singh Maras of Mumbai and Tarun Sharma of Rajsthan won the silver and bronze respectively. Mishra’s Bhubaneswar teammates Natbar Das, Ranjan Mohanty (5 each) and Kumud Kumar Nath (4.5) finished 42nd, 44th and 54th respectively. Earlier in the team championship, RSB Bhubaneswar finished ninth among 22 teams.
